In this short guide, we'll learn how to convert an OST file to a PST file without any 3rd party software.

Please refer to the following steps:
  1. File > Choose Open & Export > Import/Export > Choose Export to a file > Next > Click Outlook Data File (. pst) > Next;
  2. Choose the folders you want to export and click Next. To export the whole mailbox, select the root folder (i.e. the mailbox itself);
  3. Click Browse… to choose where you want to save the .pst file > choose OK to continue;
  4. Finish.

1. Open Outlook and go to the File menu.
2. Select Open & Export > Import/Export.
3. Choose the option: Export to a file and click Next.
4. Select Outlook Data File (.pst) and click Next.
5. Choose the email account or specific folders to export (make sure to include subfolders).
6. Browse the location where you want to save the PST file and click Finish.

This method is a bit limited as it requires access to the Exchange server and the original Outlook profile. It won't work for orphaned OST files or cases where Outlook can't connect to the server.

Thanks for pointing that out! Definitely true—if the OST file is disconnected from the server or corrupted, this method won’t work. In those cases, using third-party tools might be the only option. Appreciate you highlighting that!

When I encountered a similar issue, I tried some third-party software like Stellar Converter for OST, Kernel for OST to PST, and SysTools OST Recovery. From my experience, I prefer Stellar Converter for OST, but the others are worth trying too. It worked very well for me.

You might want to give Stellar a try as well.

The steps provided by @Andy are usable and good to use for OST to PST file migration without any 3rd party software. But what if some users do not have enough technical knowledge and want to do the conversion from OST to PST format?
